I love you, New York
Strawberry Fields in Central Park
I’ve had a few chances to go to New York City before, but something always came up. The Illustration department at SJSU organized a few trips to the big apple while I was attending. Twice I signed up, and twice failed to make it. Doubly upsetting were the comments buzzing around the room on their week back. Everyone loved it. Everyone had their perspective; and in turn, their work, changed by New York City’s vibrancy in the spring. So when my wife announced she had a three day seminar in New York at the end of summer, we had to make arrangements for a week’s stay.
I will not go into detail because this is not a travel blog but I will say this: You MUST travel to New York if you haven’t had the chance. There are so many websites nowadays that will help you travel to NYC on the cheap and just walk about.
As soon as we arrived we started taking in everything and anything, we managed to see Brooklyn, Midtown, Chelsea, Downtown, Chinatown, SoHo, Little Italy, Greenwich Village, Upper East Side and All of Central Park. The most compelling part of it all was the sensory overload. The smells, the sights, the sounds. In all, it was a very exciting way to find inspiration and realize that wherever you live, whenever your roam, there can be something to be excited about.
I did manage to record most of it through pictures and a few sketches
UPDATE: We came across an email from NBC announcing we had tickets to go see SNL’s live show. Apparently there’s a 3% chance of gettings these babies so we had no choice but to plan a trip with 9 days advance notice! The experience of making last minute travel arrangements and doing a whirlwind trip to NYC centered around SNL was amazing! We met Fred Armisen, Jason Sudekis, Seth Meyers, Andy Sandberg, Jay Pharoah and even Horatio Sanz at UCB. Ill never forget it.
Andy Sandberg and I outside NBC studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and 50th Street, NYC.
